Abstract
Gamakas are musical elements that refer to various forms of inflexions, such as shakes and quivers over musical notes in South Indian classical music. Gamakas can be broadly regarded as ornamentations to musical notes in South Indian classical music. The identity of a melody referred to as the raga is characterized using associated notes of the scale and gamakas. We perform analysis of Carnatic music gamakas using wavelets. This provides a compact mathematical representation of the isolated ornaments in the time domain. We reconstruct the gamakas using wavelet synthesis and show high correlation to recorded waveforms. © 2020 IEEE.
