Abstract
The formation of fluorescence organic nanoaggregates (FONs), via self-assembly of acetal-functionalized perylene diimide (APDI) amphiphile has been observed in the aqueous medium (pH 7.0). The J-type nanoassembly, so formed, showed highly selective interaction with Fe3+ion (Turn-off response). The detailed spectroscopic studies indicate that Fe3+ion binds with APDI molecules through the acetal functional group and transformed into H-type aggregates with higher charge-transfer characteristics. The in-situ formed iron complex (APDI-Fe3+) was further employed for sensing of pyrophosphate (Turn-On response) via metal ion displacement. Thus, the present system can sequentially detect both Fe3+and pyrophosphate via the 'On-Off-On' switching process. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
