Abstract
This discussion between a natural scientist and a humanist ranges over the different nodes of the institutional co llaborations that made possible the piloting of the Integrated Science E ducation initiative. I t throws light on early twenty-first century institutional and disciplinary compulsions and the possibilities for the integration of knowledge created in the interstices of both. Raghavendra Gadagkar has been the Chair of the Centre for Contemporary Studies since its inception, and Tejaswini Niranjana was D irector of the Centre for the Study of Cu ltu re and Society when the collaboration between CCS-IISc and CSCS began .
