Abstract

The state and parameter estimation techniques have been applied in many scientific and engineering disciplines. The two routes in estimation theory namely The Method of Maximum Likelihood Estimation which is a batch estimator and its mathematically equivalent Kalman filter approach or its variants that are sequential exist. In order to assess any new algorithm or approach it is desirable to have some test cases as in optimization and the computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Problems in estimation theory require much subjectivity in each of the four major features namely, modeling, criterion, numerical procedure, and the internal consistency of the solution. As a precursor before evolving such test cases a proposal is made for presenting the analysis and results.
