Abstract
Optical orbital angular momentum has caught the attention of researchers from various fields due to its wide range of applications. For use in quantum communications, a photon has to be prepared in a state of orbital angular momentum (OAM). As photons in a light beam with distinct angular momentum are orthogonal to each other, we can use them to represent different data symbols. Thus it is possible to carry a large number of bits on a single photon. In this paper, we report the design of a sorter for 16 OAM helices, which involves simple signal processing techniques. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
