Abstract

Persistent surveillance missions focus on collecting maximum information of an area of interest by tracing unpredictable patterns. This work proposes a range based guidance logic for generating quasi-periodic patterns around a stationary target. Based on Poincarè-Bendixsons Theorem, the existence of closed orbits is established followed by an analysis of the hypotrochoid nature of search patterns. Further analysis derives an observability enhancement metric for range-only information-based systems. Simulation results demonstrate the motion patterns and observability characteristics. © 2019 by Anjaly Parayil, Ashwini Ratnoo.
