Abstract

Now-a-days huge growth in network applications in the field of mobile technology, cloud computing, data center network and social networks has led to requirements for high speed networks. To fulfill such wide range of requirements one of the promising solution is optical networks. WDM is one such technology whose bandwidth can be enhanced up to 100Gbps by effectively utilizing the fiber. However once the traffic demand varies WDM aren't effective, hence an effective solution is required for handling varying data traffic demands. Most appropriate solution for this case is utilization of elastic optical networks (EONs) which provide huge bandwidth by using spectrum as fine orthogonal subcarriers but extra constraints need to be considered while allotting subcarriers using Routing and Spectrum allocation (RSA) of EONs. The main objective of this work is to analyze basic-fit allocations such as first-fit, random-fit and exact-fit spectrum allocations and introduce fragment aware routing algorithm. The routing method is compared with shortest path spectrum reuse algorithm (SPSR) and balanced load spectrum allocation (BLSA) routing algorithm. The basic-fit spectrum allocations are implemented to these routing techniques. © 2019 IEEE.
