Abstract
Polytetrafluoroethylene ( PTFE ) has the distinction of being chemically very stable and, consequently, has found varied industrial uses. A DSC study of the reaction of PTFE with metals/metal oxide mixtures showed the formation of metal fluoride and with atomic hydrogen at low temperatures, no reaction was observed. However, PTFE is known to react with alkali metals, chlorine tri-fluoride, and fluorine at high temperatures, but in no case has formation of C - H bonds in PTFE been reported.
