Abstract
Three new copper(II)-azide compounds, Cu-3(N-3)(6)(Pn)] (I), Cu-6(N-3)(12)(Pn)(2)]center dot CH3OH (II) and Cu-7(N-3)(14)(Pn)(2)] (III), have been prepared employing 1,2-diaminopropane (Pn) as a site blocking amine. Compound I has a one-dimensional (1D) structure, compound II has a two-dimensional (2D) structure and compound III has a three-dimensional (3D) structure. The compounds have Cu-4 units and two metalloligand units in I, Cu-4 and Cu-2 units in II, and Cu-6 clusters and a metalloligand unit in III. The stabilization of different copper clusters was achieved by the subtle variations in the synthetic conditions. The different EO and EE bridgings of the azide promote magnetic exchanges between the copper centers. All the compounds exhibit antiferromagnetic behaviour.
