Abstract

Effect of ionic liquid functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (IL-MWCNTs) on mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of MWCNTs-reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/PMMA nanocomposites is investigated. IL-MWCNTs-rGO/PMMA hybrid nanocomposites are prepared by solvent-casing method. Incorporation of IL-MWCNTs improved the tensile strength and modulus by 119% and 58% respectively at 0.5 wt.% than that of PMMA due to better load transfer from PMMA to IL-MWCNTs-rGO. Enhancement in thermal stability is also occurs with incorporation of IL-MWCNTs in rGO/PMMA composite due to strong interaction provided by IL-MWCNTs with the polymer matrix. IL-MWCNTs-rGO/PMMA hybrid nanocomposites also shows more electrical conductivity than IL-MWCNTs/PMMA composite. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
