Abstract
Malaria, worldwide, affects around 500 million people with 2-3 million clinical cases every year. In this study, a proteomic approach was used to analyze the alterations in mice serum proteome induced by P. berghei infection; and identified number of differentially expressed proteins compared to control. Serum proteins were separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2DE). These proteins were further identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption or ionization - time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) spectrometry. Important proteins identified include Serum amyloid A4 protein, Relch-like protein, Glutathione-S-transferase Mul. The identified proteins could have a significant role in developing a biomarker-based diagnostic tool for malaria. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
