Abstract

A preliminary investigation has been made to study the mechanism of decomposition of self deflagrating solid (iron oxalate dihydrazinate) using temperature profile technique. A three step decomposition mechanism of two hydrazine losses and subsequent oxidation of anhydrous salt has been proposed. The enthalpy changes for these steps, obtained from the temperature profile measurements agree well with the values calculated using heat of formation data obtained from combustion calorimetry and differential scanning calorimetry.
