Abstract

Addressed is a technique for intelligent packet discard in routers, based on bandwidth or user-specified requests. We use the concept of active networks to process streamed MPEG video on a prototype active router. The video processing algorithm that runs on the active router adapts to the available bandwidth and determines what packets are to be dropped.
