Abstract

The problem of estimating the three-dimensional attitude and position parameters of an object from its images is considered using moment functions, A planar object motion in the three-dimensional space can be easily expressed in terms of a corresponding set of transformations in the image moment space, with the help of a simple projection model of the imaging system. This paper discusses the solution of the moment equations, for a general affine transformation of the object. The geometric moments of the images of both the initial and transformed object configurations are used as measurements. The iterative algorithm uses a reduced set of non-linear moment equations containing only the attitude matrix elements.
