Abstract

We measured the polarization dependence of the Bragg diffraction efficiency of a crystalline colloidal array and compared the experimental results to that predicted by theory. The diffraction efficiency for pi polarized light decreases to zero for an incidence angle of 45 degrees to the diffracting planes. Our experimental diffraction and transmission results quantitatively agree with the predictions of dynamical diffraction theory.
