Abstract
Bismuth vanadate, Bi2VO5.5 (BiV), ceramics have been fabricated with various concentrations of potassium chloride (KCl). X-ray powder diffraction studies confirm that KCl, at higher concentrations, reacts with BiV and gives rise to Bi12V2O23 and KVO3 phases. The microstructural studies carried out, using scanning electron microscopy, reveal that the grain size of BiV ceramics increases with increase in KCl content as a consequence of segregation of molten KCl at the grain boundaries during sintering. The dielectric constant (epsilon(r)) as well as dielectric loss (tan delta) are found to decrease with increase in KCl concentration.
