Abstract

In a recent letter, Wang et al.1 have reported the sizedependent melting of Zn nanowires. A nonlinear relation has been obtained between the melting temperature and the inverse of the nanowire diameter and explained to be due to the change of the heat of fusion with diameter.2 Though we have no reserve on the method used for the synthesis of Zn nanowires and evaluation of their melting temperatures, the interpretation of the size-dependent melting temperature appears to be incorrect. After some general considerations, we will discuss the validity of the comparison between both experimental and theoretical studies and finally give a different interpretation to the experimental results reported in Ref.
