Abstract
The research work proposes an alternate strategy of the extraction of embelin (2,5-dihydroxy-3-undecyl-p-benzoquinone) from Embelia ribes. The aromatic hydrotropes such as sodium n butyl benzene sulfonate (NaNBBS), and sodium cumene sulfonate (NaCS) were found to be effective for the selective extraction of embelin with a recovery of 95% embelin from the aqueous solution of hydrotropes with high purity. The process was further optimized with respect to concentration of hydrotropes and temperature of extraction.
