Abstract

The major rRNA gene (rDNA) repeat unit in rice variety IR20 was 8.8 kb and showed restriction site heterogeneity. A 15.5-kb EcoRI DNA fragment contained the rRNA gene unit which seems to be the terminal or the junction of repeat unit of the tandemly repeated rDNA units. The 25 S rRNA gene in this unit did not have the EcoRI, BamHI, and SacII restriction sites which are normally present in the gene.
