Complexes of lanthanide nitrates with isoquinoline-2-oxide (IQNO) of the type $[Ln(IQNO)_3]$ $(NO_3)_3$, where Ln = Y and La-Yb have been synthesized and characterized by chemical analysis, conductance, infrared, proton NMR and electronic spectral data. Infrared and proton NMR data have been interpreted in terms of the coordination of the ligand to the tripositive lanthanide ion through the oxygen of the $N-O$ group. Conductance data along with the infrared studies indicate that all the nitrate groups are coordinated to the metal ion in a bidentate fashion. From the electronic spectral studies, a tentative coordination number of nine has been assigned to all the complexes under study.
