Abstract

Some basic studies and the developmental efforts on the gasification of powdery biomass are discussed. The basic studies on rice husk, indicates that the glowing time is $\sim 10$ times the flaming time for a full husk, compared with 4 times in the case of wood particle. Various reactor geometries for gasification of biomass like rice husk, sawdust, etc. and their performance are discussed. Use of an external medium to crack the tar content in the gas is also discussed.
