A review with no references includes highlights of the current status and future prospects in battery and fuel-cell technologies and considers recently published EC and UK Government papers. In particular, the environmental impact of these alternative energy technologies in traction and stationary power generation were carefully considered in a recent DTI report, which shows that the overall environmental impact of most battery and hybrid fuel cell/battery systems is comparable to that of the internal combustion engine
