Abstract

$57^Fe$ Mössbauer studies of three inorganic glasses through their glass transition temperatures, $T_g$, show that the Lamb-Mössbauer factor (recoil-free fraction) decreases with temperature, particularly around Tg. An attempt is made to explain the results employing the cluster model which suggests that soft modes may be associated with the glass transition.
