Abstract

A new polymeric compound, $[Mn(N_3)_2(1)_2]_n$ (2) where 1=N(phenyl)isonicotinamide (NPI), has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography and low-temperature magnetic study. Compound 2 consists of a one-dimensional chain of octahedral Mn(II) bridged by azide anions in end-to-end fashion. In this compound, the Mn(II) ions are linked by 4 azide bridging ligands and 2 monodentate ligands 1. Variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements in the temperature range 300-4 K reveal the existence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions $(J=-14.6 cm^{-1})$.
