Vibrational electron energy loss spectroscopy and UPS showed the presence of a multiplicity of sites in the adsorption of CO on polycrystalline surfaces of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Pd, Pt, and Ag and transition metal alloys. Alloy surfaces show the presence of sites similar to those on the surfaces of the component metals, but with modified reactivities.
