Metal droplet levitation in an induction electromagnetic field was used to study the reaction of Fe, Ni, and Fe-Ni alloys with a flowing $H_2$ + $H_2S$ mixture at 1790-1950 K. The activity of S in the liquid metal phase was detected, based on the equilibrium characteristics at the metal-gas interface. A thermodynamic analysis of the reactions is given. The results can be used for the improvement of the pyrometallurgical preparation of Fe, Ni, and their alloys.
