Abstract

DSC, x-ray diffraction, and TEM were used to det. the thermal stability and identify the cryst. phases on devitrification of Metglas 2826 MB. The glass crystallizes into \gamma-FeNiMo and fcc. $(FeNi)_23B_6$ with activation energies of 270 and 375 kJ mol-1, resp. The reactions are primary and polymorphic in nature. The influence of Mo towards crystn. of $Fe_40Ni_40B_20$ was to enhance the formation of the fcc. $(FeNi)_23B_6$ phase in preference to orthorhombic $(FeNi)_3B$ phase and to raise the thermal stability of the amorphous state.
