Concrete is always processed from its fresh state, which is a dispersion of solid constituents in cement paste. This paper examines the analogy between soil and concrete, both in terms of material constituents and interactions with fluid phase. It has been shown that by considerations of diffuse double layer interactions, the flow behavior of cement paste, mortars and concrete can be generalized. The inert constituents are found to dilute the physico-chemical potential of the clay or cement. This mode of generalization permits to account the physico-chemical potential of cements at the engineering level
