The Enthalpy method is widely used for phase change problems due to its simplicity and applicability to multi-dimensional problems. Its main versatility lies in the fact that there is no need to track the phase change interface accurately during each time step. Both implicit and explicit schemes are used for solving phase change problems, but explicit schemes are constrained by the small values of time step in order to satisfy the stability criteria. An implicit finite difference formulation leads to a set of non-linear equations which can be solved via a iterative scheme. To solve these equations Meyer [1], Shamsundar and Sparrow [2], Longworth [3], Furzeland [4] have developed various schemes.
