Abstract

The influence of galvanic interactions in the bioleaching of mixed sulphides containing pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite is discussed with respect to different binary, ternary and quaternary mixtures. Galvanic currents and combination potentials, measured in different combinations could be correlated with the observed leaching behaviour of chalcopyrite and sphalerite. Scanning electron micrographs are used to illustrate the surface morphology of leached mineral surfaces.
