Increase in xylanase prodn. by the thermophilic fungus H. lanuginosa was achieved following varying culture conditions. The enzyme is induced by xylan and xylan-contg. polymers. Though xylanase is the major extracellular protein produced by the organism from the early stages of growth, a sharp increase in enzyme activity is noted only after 12-14 days of growth.
