Abstract

The reaction of trans-$[(PhN)P(NMe_2)]_2$ with 2 equiv of Ph azide yields the bis(imino) deriv., trans-$[(PhN)P(NMe_2)(NPh)]_2$ (I). The x-ray crystal structure of I reveals that the $N_2P_2$ ring and the Ph groups attached to the ring N atoms are coplanar. The ring N atoms as well as the N atoms of the dimethylamino groups display trigonal planar geometry. The bond length of 1.518 $\AA$ for the exocyclic P=N bond indicates that this bond is not delocalized with the $N_2P_2$ ring system.
