The elastic modulus of metal matrix composite with aluminum alloy AA1050 as matrix, and galvanized iron wire (AISI 1008) as reinforcement was detd. using finite element anal. in order to find out the significant increase in elastic modulus obsd. in a previous study. For this purpose different geometries and vol. percentage of reinforcement are examd. The significant increase in elastic modulus was found to be not due to interconnected form of the reinforcement but due to an increase in the vol. fraction of the reinforcement in the tensile specimen. It is also found that the reinforcements transverse to the loading direction, even in the interconnected form, do not contribute much to the elastic modulus. It is the longitudinal reinforcements that contribute to the elastic modulus of the composite
