Abstract

A pulsed ultrasonic phase sensitive superheterodyne spectrometer which is normally used for the precise measurement of relative change in sound velocity $\Delta C$, by measuring the phase change $\varphi$ while travelling in the sample is used for absolute velocity measurement. The error associated with the measurement is also discussed in detail. The experimental results for typical samples are presented.
