Abstract

A simple extrinsic fiber optic vibration sensor (FOVS) is described. It is shown that the sensor measures both continuous and transient vibrations in a frequency range up to 1 kHz with a maximum amplitude of 25 mm. Evaluations of the natural frequencies and the damping coefficient are also demonstrated.
