Fine-particle zirconium titanates, ZrTiO/sub 4/ and Zr/sub 5/Ti/sub 7/O/sub 24/, have been synthesized by the solution combustion process using corresponding metal nitrates and tetraformal trisazine [TFTA]/carbohydrazide [CH]. Combustion-derived products are weakly crystalline with anatase TiO/sub 2/ as impurity. Fully crystalline zirconium titanates could be obtained by calcination at 1200 degrees C for 2 hr. The CH-derived products have lower surface area (10-15 m/sup 2//g) compared to TFTA-derived products (45-90 m/sup 2//g). Zirconium titanates could be sintered >95% of theoretical density at low sintering temperature ( approximately=1375 degrees C) without any additives. The sintered zirconium titanates show dielectric constant of 20-35 and very low dielectric loss 2-7*10/sup -4/ Number of references:12
