The process of production and evolution of quark gluon plasma in relativistic heavy ion collisions are studied by two formalisms. One of them is the parton cascade model and the other is the QCD flux tube model of Low (1975) and Nussinov (1975). In this paper, we shall describe the production of the plasma following the second method, according to which, QQ¯ pairs are produced through the decay of the flux tubes formed between the two receding nuclei due to multiple exchange of soft gluons that occurs in the collision of two relativistic heavy ions
