Abstract

Several metallic oxides such as copper (II) oxide and nickel (II) oxide have been found to react with elemental sulphur at elevated temperature under vacuum giving a sulphur rich oxide along with sulphur dioxide. The lower oxide of sulphur has been found to be disulphur monoxide. The reduction of the metallic oxides with elemental sulphur at atmospheric pressure was found to yield sulphur dioxide only.
