Abstract

Transparent glasses of SrLiB9O15 (SLBO) were fabricated via the conventional melt-quenching technique. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) along with differential thermal analysis (DTA) carried out on the as-quenched samples confirmed their amorphous and glassy nature, respectively. DTA runs were made at different heating rates in order to evaluate the activation energies associated with the glass transition and crystallisation of SrLiB9O15 glasses. The average values of the activation energies for the glass transition and crystallisation of these glasses were 860±10 kJ/mol and 458±10 kJ/mol, respectively. The value of the Avrami exponent n, was 2±0·2 suggesting the process to be one dimensional volume crystallisation. The values of the kinetic parameters that were obtained by different non-isothermal techniques were in close agreement.
