Abstract

Mung bean aspartate transcarbamylase (EC 2.1.3.2) (I) was activated by SDS, EtOH, and acetone in a pH-dependent manner. I was also activated when it was modified by pyridoxal-5'-phosphate followed by redn. with $NaBH_4$. SDS and other nonpolar compds. were postulated to activate I by altering the pKa of the $\Sigma$-amino group of a lysine residue on the enzyme.
