Abstract

With the view to understand the photobehavior of olefinic cryst. compds. lattice energy calcns. have been performed for a no. of photodimerizable olefins. It is shown that to rationalize the photoreactivity of the compds., dynamic topochem. concepts have to be invoked. Although the calcns. have been carried out using the ground state geometry with the dispersion consts. applicable to the ground state, the results are in agreement with the exptl. observations. The limitations of the approach employed are pointed out.
