Abstract

A review with 109 refs. discussed the synthesis, flame-retardant and plasticizing properties, and potential uses of phosphoric acid polyesters. They were prepd. by polycondensation of diols or dihydric phenols with alkyl or aryl phosphorodichloridates in soln., in the melt, or at an interface. Their thermal stability and flame-retardant ability depended on the polymer structure. Small amts. of the phosphoric acid polyesters compared to halogen-based flame retardants were sufficient to make polymers flame retardant.
