Abstract

A correlated pair transfer mechanism involving electron pairs in the singlet state of the species $X^{\uparrow \downarrow} (=Cu^+, O^{2-}\hspace{1mm}_2, O^{2-}, Bi^{3+}, T1^+, etc.)$ and their virtual excited state $X^0 (=Cu^{3+}, O^0\hspace{1mm}_2, . . .)$ is presented. The two states of the species (complex) arise from the transfer of local charged bosons (lochons) comprising electron pairs in the singlet state. These entities interact with the carriers (electrons or holes) in the high temperature materials giving rise to a pairing interactions. As the mechanism is attractive for the entire conduction band, the superconducting critical temperature can be high. The induced pairing is of anisotropic single (s-wave) type owing to quasi two-dimensional character of conducting sheets.
