In nonequilibrium gas-particle nozzle flows, new definitions for the effective nozzle area ratio and effective Mach number, which can be called virtual area and virtual Mach number, are proposed. By using the definition of virtual area it is shown that the governing equations for the two-phase nonequilibrium nozzle flow can be effectively reduced to pure gas type equations. This `pseudo pure gas' resembles that of real diatomic gas with vibrational mode relaxation. By combining the transformed mass and momentum conservation equations and by using the definition of virtual Mach number, simple area-Mach number relations which are very similar to those of the pure gas case have also been obtained
