Abstract

In his $comment^1$ Heinrichs has questioned the validity of the starting assumption made in our $paper^2$, namely, that in the limit of short sample length (L), the phase $\theta(L)$ of the complex amplitude reflection coefficient r(L) gets strongly correlated with the random potential V(L) such that V(L)sin $\theta(L)\geq0$ with a probability of 1. Our stated finiteness of the averaged conductance in the short-length limit, of course, depended crucially on this assumption.
