Abstract

A coupled-mode analysis is presented for a general three-wave mixing process in a crystal cored fibre. Improved coupled mode equations are derived for sum frequency generation (SFG) and second harmonic generation (SHG). Both the guided wave scheme and the Cerenkov scheme are considered as special cases. The angle of propagation of the second harmonic mode is taken into consideration as a further improvement to the scalar coupled mode theory. The efficiency of SHG and SFG in the Cerenkov schemes are numerically calculated and their variation with respect to the waveguide parameters are studied. The effect of finite cladding dimension on SHG efficiency is also studied.
