This study presents the first transport-reaction model that successfully captures the real-time response of test and control line intensities in lateral flow immunoassays (LFIA's) and the expansion of dynamic range by monitoring real-time signal generation. We also present experimental results of mitigating the hook effect in commercially available pregnancy strips using real time imaging and demonstrate strong agreement between the predictions of our model and experiments results. These results show potential to expand the dynamic range of LFIA's up to two orders of magnitude. © 2019 CBMS-0001.
