Abstract

In this paper, a coordinated control structure is presented to solve the issues related to the unbalance in a microgrid. In the absence of the grid, normally the synchronous generator present in the microgrid acts as a voltage source and other converters and loads follow it. Due to the uneven distribution of loads between the three phases, the three phase currents can be unbalanced which may result in the tripping of the synchronous generator. This paper proposes a coordinated control scheme between single phase inverter and sequence compensator, where the single phase converter present in the system is switched dynamically between the phases to minimize the unbalance present in the system. The remaining unbalance is compensated using a sequence compensator. This coordinated control scheme helps to reduce the rating of sequence compensator. © 2019 IEEE.
