Abstract

1,4-Dihydrobenzoic acids 1a-e are converted by a one-pot reaction to benzene-mono-, di- and tricarboxaldehydes under Vilsmeier reaction conditions in yields ranging from 6 to 65. The same methodology also serves to give naphthalene-1,3-dicarboxaldehyde (2f) from 1.4-dihydro-1-naphthoic acid (1f) in 91 yield. © 1987 Georg Thieme Verlag. All rights reserved.
