The ir absorption spectrum of b-Ca3(PO4)2, prepd. by 4 different methods, is recorded and appropriate assignments of the obsd. bands are made. The spectrum of b-Ca3(PO4)2 is compared with that of Ba3(PO4)2 in view of similarity in their crystal structure. The spectra of different tricalcium phosphate samples prepd. under different exptl. conditions are not identical. The variations are explained on the basis of the nonequiv. statistical distribution of atoms in the solid.
